The Air Jordan 3 set a new bar in fashion and technology for Nike's Michael Jordan-branded sneakers, becoming one of the most famous Air Jordan designs ever. The Air Jordan 3 was a stylish and attractive shoe, similar to the Air Jordan 2.

Once again, there was no huge Logo down the side of the sneaker. Instead, the Nike Air logo was on the rear, along with three important new components: a new Jumpman symbol on the tongue, a grey elephant hide-like layout on the upper part of the shoe, and an obvious Air unit on the heel. The sneaker was also $100 more expensive than the Air Jordan 2. This model would more than meet the expectations.

Hatfield sincerely cared about what athletes thought about the footwear they were wearing, a habit he most likely inherited from his old Oregon coach and Nike co-founder, Bill Bowerman. Hatfield spoke with Jordan about what he wanted in a shoe: a thing with a mid-cut height rather than the super-high sneakers that everybody else was wearing; something comfy that broke right in with smooth, supple leather; something with flair and refinement.
